Turns out...I am a part-time Museum Educator.

My last post was in the winter of 2010. It is now the winter (almost spring) of 2012. Things have changed that is for sure. I am continually hustling and learning and exploring new and interesting opportunities that come my way. Since the Fall of 2010 I have been teaching two Saturday classes at a Museum. Here is the latest display of my student's artwork in the Museum. The students come from various backgrounds and all are interested in art. They are 8-12 years of age and I challenge the young children to complete the same tasks as the 12 year old children.

This project was a challenging one for the group. It was inspired by something I saw on... guess where..."Pinterest." The students looked at the miniature portrait gallery in the museum. Taking inspiration from all the different portraits, students partnered up and created their large silhouettes. They painted the silhouettes in with black paint. I then photocopied the silhouettes at a 50% reduced rate. The student cut the silhouettes out and covered them with layers of gel medium and then placed on a square of fabric. The students created their own tassels from yarn connected their fabric and tassels together, and sewed the pillow together. (The hardest part was threading the needles) To complete the pillows, students removed the paper using water and scrubbing pads to reveal their silhouette. They added buttons for embellishment and some students filled in some of their silhouette with black fabric marker to cover the left behind paper. All in all it was a process but the results were a success and the students have a beautiful pillow to take home!
